Marlys Mae Bailey, 79, of Brookings, SD, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial Services will be 10:30am Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Rude’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00am until the time of service.

Marlys Mae Simonson was born on May 18, 1930 in Brookings, South Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Johnson) Simonson.

Marlys received her education in the Brookings Schools and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1949. She continued her education at S.D.S.U. for two years. She was united in marriage to Donald Bailey on December 31, 1949 in Montevideo, Minnesota. After their marriage, she was employed at Kendall’s Pharmacy for five years. They then moved to Detroit, Mich. for one year until moving back to Brookings in 1951. In 1972, she was employed at the Starolite, Inn in Brookings as head of housekeeping, until December 1999. Donald passed away May 20, 2002.

She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a member of the AARP. She especially enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends.

Marlys is survived by her three sons, Steven Bailey, and his wife, Joan, of Ham Lake, MN, Robert Bailey of Brookings, Dale Bailey, and his wife Jill of Livermore, CA; one daughter, Delona Pedersen, and her husband, David of Brookings; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one sister, Dorthy Stamp, her husband, Maurice of Van Couver, WA; a special friend, Adolph Peterson of Elkton, SD; a special cousin, Linda Bullis of Brandon, SD; a brother-in-law, Dale E. Bailey of Brookings, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald and one sister, Phyllis Felberg.
