Carl DeBeer, 81, died on Monday, May 4, 2009, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, SD. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 8, 2009, at Rudes Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, at Rudes Funeral Home. Interment at the Fairview Cemetery in White, SD.

Carl was born on June 12, 1927, in Lyon County, IA, the son of John and Sena (Heeren) DeBeer. He received his education in rural school in Lyon County, IA and in rural school in Brookings County, SD. He was united in marriage to Vanda Raine on September 9, 1950, in White, SD. After their marriage they farmed in Brookings Co, near White until 1966. Carl was then employed on the Curtis Nelson farm for ten years. In 1977, they moved into Brookings, where he was employed at the Brookings Mall until his retirement in 1992. Vanda died on November 8, 1990, in Sioux Falls, SD. Carl continued to make Brookings his home.

He enjoyed riding his bicycle, and especially visiting family and friends.

He is survived by his children Carla DeBeer and her daughter Cari Schwartzkopf of Brookings, SD, Terry DeBeer of New Castle, WY, Gary (Barb) DeBeer and their daughter Sandy DeBeer of Brookings, Toni (Tim) Bauer and their children Amber and Daniel Bauer of Elkton, SD; one brother LeRoy (Dianne) DeBeer of Volga, SD, one sister Bena Strom of Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
