Life Legacy
Edwin J. Giebink, 85, of Brookings, SD died Sunday, January 6, 2007 at United Retirement Center, Brookings. Funeral Services have been set for 10:00am Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Volga, SD. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Rudes Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.
Edwin J. Giebink was born on April 22, 1922 in Grant County, South Dakota the son of Edward and Jennie (Reents) Giebink.
Edwin received his education in rural country school in Minnehaha County, SD. After receiving his education he started farming with his father and brother in Brookings County. After the death of his father, he continued to farm with his brother and sister until his retirement in 1996. He especially enjoyed caring for the sheep and farm animals. In 1996, he moved into Brookings.
He was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Volga, SD, where he served as an Elder of the Church and also served as an adult Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was a strong advocate for the church and was very motivated by his faith in Christ. He was an avid reader, committed to lifelong learning. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching the History Channel, and spending time with family and friends.
Edwin is survived by a brother-in-law Wallace Bothwell of Brookings, SD; four nephews Norman (Jeanne) Giebink, Ronald Bothwell, Randall Bothwell, Mark (Kristy) Bothwell; one niece Rhonda (Jason) Miller and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents two sisters Josephine Giebink and Byrnis Bothwell, and one brother Herbert.
