Funeral Services for Steven Nordbye, 54, will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at First Lutheran Church, in Brookings, SD. Visitation will be from 4pm until 9pm, with a Prayer Service at 8pm, on Monday, at Rudes Funeral Home in Brookings.
Steven J. Nordbye was born on April 5, 1956, in Brookings, SD, the son of Hartley and Frances (Swedlund) Nordbye. He received his education in the Brookings Schools.
While receiving his education he worked with his father as a tender. His father continued to teach him the trade as a bricklayer. At the age of 17 he was employed with John C. Johnson, and at the age of 18 his father had him sworn into the Bricklayers Union in South Dakota and Minnesota. In 1975, he married Diane Parker, and together they had four children. Steve continued to teach his trade to his sons and nephews. He was united in marriage to Nina Young on September 6, 1985, in Houston, Texas. After their marriage they moved to Brookings, SD. From this union one child Ashley was born.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, bowling, working on cars, playing softball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved his dog Buster.
Steve is survived by his wife Nina of Brookings; his children Billi Jo (Ryan) Meyer of Aurora, SD, Jeremy (Sonja) Nordbye of Baltic, SD, Jesse Nordbye of Brookings, April Nordbye of Brookings, Ashley (Jason) Bohman of Volga, SD; twelve grandchildren, Shelby, Riley, Reid, Emily, Avery, Easton, Aaron, Caleb, Kadence, Keghan, Keiley, Zeiva; six brothers and sisters Donald (Wanda) Nordbye, Diane (David Olson) Owens, Joanie (Greg) Himley, Shirley (Lucky Moore) Christopherson, all of Brookings, Becky (Jim) Konop of Estelline, SD and Hartley (Laura) Nordbye of Brookings, SD; and his father Hartley Nordbye of Brookings.
He was preceded in death by his mother Frances.
Steven died on Thursday, January 6, 2011.
