Life Legacy


Teresa Margaret (Chicoine) DeBoise, 94, passed away on June 5, 2009.

Teresa was born May 2, 1915 in Jefferson, SD daughter of Alex A. and Mabel (Fountain) Chicoine. Teresa spent her early years and received her education in Jefferson and was a graduate of Jefferson HS in 1932. She attended Northwest Business College in Sioux City. She was united in marriage to William A. DeBoise on May 2, 1936 in Jefferson. They initially farmed near Elk Point and in 1956 purchased Grandview Farm north of Brookings, SD. Teresa was employed in the Plant Science Dept. of SDSU as a lab technician for many years. In 1982, they moved off the farm and into Brookings. William passed away Oct. 4, 1988. Teresa relocated to Waterford at All Saints Retirement Community in Sioux Falls in October 2007.

She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the Church Guild, Catholic Daughters, Hospital Auxiliary, Quilters Guild, Wednesday Club and several bridge clubs. She especially enjoyed quilting, bridge and visiting with family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Deanne Lee of Sioux Falls, SD., Jeanne (Robert) Stuerman, Wells, MN., two sons, Tom (Melva) DeBoise, Houston, TX., and Dr. Douglas (Jeri) DeBoise, Lincoln NE., 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and one sister Charlene Merrill of Jefferson, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, a son-in-law and one great grandson.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, SD. Visitation begins at 4:00pm Tuesday at Rudes Funeral Home in Brookings with family present to greet friends from 4:00 to 6:30pm. Scripture and rosary service will follow visitation at 6:30pm. Burial will be in St. Thomas More Catholic Cemetery.

In lue of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred.
