Life Legacy


Craig Fickbohm, 61, of Brookings, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.

Craig Vernon Fickbohm was born May 5, 1949, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Florence (Siemers) Fickbohm.

Craig was raised and attended school in Alcester, South Dakota and graduated from Alcester High School in 1967. Craig enlisted in the United States Army on September 18, 1969 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and was honorably discharged on June 1, 1975.

Craig was united in marriage to Noreen Overby on November 17, 1973 at Woodlake Church in Astoria, South Dakota. In their 19 years of marriage, four children were blessed to their union, Carrie, Dustin, Amber and Nicholas. He attended Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls and received an Associate’s Degree in Drafting. After college the couple resided in Beresford before moving to Brookings in 1978. Craig began his career at Daktronics, where he worked as a draftsman and a metal fabricator until 2010.

Craig was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and also participated in the Brookings Car Club for several years. He enjoyed collecting vintage model cars and cruising in his 1971 Chevelle. He was an avid supporter of Brookings baseball, the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. Craig was very proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and enjoyed spending time with each one of them.

Craig is survived by his four children; Carrie (Brian) Rehnke of Sioux Falls, SD, and their children Dylan and Bergen; Dustin (Jessica) Fickbohm of Brookings, SD, and their children Abigail, Grace and Maddy; Amber (Ben) Hauger of Dayton, OH, and their children Lucas and Isaac; Nicholas Fickbohm of Brookings, SD; three sisters, Colleen Speakman of Vermillion, SD, Caryn Jacobson of Beresford, SD, Candice (Mark) Merrick of Alcester, SD; two brothers, Calvin Fickbohm of Sioux Falls, SD and Curtis (Julie) Fickbohm of Vermillion, SD.

He is preceded in death by his parents Florence and Vernon Fickbohm, one infant brother and a sister-in-law, Sandi Fickbohm.
