Life Legacy
Timothy Nielsen, 51, of Brookings, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his home under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, July 2, 2011 at First Lutheran Church, Brookings. Visitation will be Friday, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings.
Timothy Bryan Nielsen was born March 24, 1960 to Russell and Nancy (Lee) Nielsen in Brookings, SD. He grew up on the family farm near Elkton and graduated from Elkton High School in 1979. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1979 to 1982 where he served in Germany and in Georgia where he met his wife Lori Squires. They were married on July 17th 1982. They were blessed two children Jessie and Matthew. Tim was employed by the City of Brookings since 1982. He also was a respected Boy Scout leader and Scout Master of Troop 4 for many years.
In his spare time, Tim enjoyed woodworking, hunting, painting, drawing, crafts and was an avid reader and gardener. He especially enjoyed studying the bible and his weekly bible study. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and he loved being ‘Papa Tim’ to all of his grandchildren who loved him dearly.
He was a devoted member of the Brookings Church of Christ for many years.
Tim is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lori, of Brookings, SD; one daughter, Jessie Nielsen, of Star Prairie, WI; one son Matthew (Elicia) Nielsen, of Brookings; his parents, Russell and Nancy Nielsen, of Brookings, SD; two brothers Scott (Helen) Nielsen of Brookings, SD; and Joe Nielsen of Granite Falls, MN; six grandchildren, Billie, Damian, Jaydon, McKenzie, Kaden and Bryson; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
